Domain Locking

Domain Locking

Prevent unauthorized transfers with domain locking.

What is Domain Locking?

A security feature that:

  • Prevents unauthorized transfers
  • Blocks registrar changes
  • Protects against hijacking

How It Works

When locked:

  • Transfer requests automatically rejected
  • Registrar changes blocked
  • Domain stays secure

When unlocked:

  • Transfers allowed
  • Update registrar permitted
  • Needed for legitimate transfers

Default Setting

All domains are:

  • Locked by default
  • For your protection
  • Unlock only when transferring

Unlocking Your Domain

To transfer your domain:

  1. Go to domain dashboard
  2. Click "Security Settings"
  3. Toggle "Domain Lock" off
  4. Get auth code
  5. Initiate transfer
  6. Re-lock after transfer
  7. Best Practices

    • Keep locked when not transferring
    • Enable two-factor authentication
    • Monitor domain activity
    • Use strong account password

    Transfer Lock

    Separate from domain lock:

    • 60-day lock after transfer
    • 60-day lock after registrant change
    • ICANN requirement
    • Cannot be removed early
