What is Domain Locking?
A security feature that:
- Prevents unauthorized transfers
- Blocks registrar changes
- Protects against hijacking
How It Works
When locked:
- Transfer requests automatically rejected
- Registrar changes blocked
- Domain stays secure
When unlocked:
- Transfers allowed
- Update registrar permitted
- Needed for legitimate transfers
Default Setting
All domains are:
- Locked by default
- For your protection
- Unlock only when transferring
Unlocking Your Domain
To transfer your domain:
- Go to domain dashboard
- Click "Security Settings"
- Toggle "Domain Lock" off
- Get auth code
- Initiate transfer
- Re-lock after transfer
- Keep locked when not transferring
- Enable two-factor authentication
- Monitor domain activity
- Use strong account password
- 60-day lock after transfer
- 60-day lock after registrant change
- ICANN requirement
- Cannot be removed early
