Understanding authorization codes for domain transfers.

What is an Auth Code?

Also called:

  • Authorization code
  • EPP code
  • Transfer key
  • Auth-Info code

Purpose

Auth codes:

  • Verify domain ownership
  • Authorize transfers
  • Prevent unauthorized moves
  • Required by ICANN

Getting Your Auth Code

  1. Log in to your account
  2. Go to domain dashboard
  3. Click "Transfer Out"
  4. View/copy auth code
  5. Security

    Auth codes:

    • Should be kept private
    • Valid for 30 days
    • Can be regenerated
    • Sent to registrant email

    Using Auth Code

    To transfer your domain:

    1. Unlock domain
    2. Get auth code
    3. Go to new registrar
    4. Initiate transfer
    5. Enter auth code
    6. Confirm transfer
    7. Auto-Generation

      We automatically:

      • Generate secure codes
      • Email code to registrant
      • Allow regeneration
      • Track code requests

      Transfer Locks

      Remember:

      • 60-day lock after transfer-in
      • 60-day lock after registrant update
      • Auth code doesn't override locks
      • ICANN requirement
